UGC SOCCER CLUB PROFILE
Founded in 1979, The United Goans Centre (UGC) is one of the oldest and most respected soccer club in Kuwait and known overseas as well. During the past 32 years UGC besides contributing in the promotion of soccer has also helped in various charitable and community causes in Kuwait and in India as well.
In1979, Feburary 15th UGC was the first Club noted for picking up the soccer ball and running the first "League" come "knock out" tournament with 14 teams on the popular Sour grounds. A major role played by UGC continued annually its impressive representation of socially classic events of "summer Belle" and various Christmas events.
UGC always remained committed in exclusively and sportiveness. The club operates as a non-profit organization dedicated to give boost to young soccer players while promoting understanding, skill, appreciation and enjoyment of the great game. UGC is fully registered competitive soccer club and organizer under the supervision of the Kuwait Indian Football Federation(KIFF) since its interception in 1984. UG Strikers has won the first KIFF league in 1984 and many more consecutive titles.
One of the most vital cornerstones of the UGC is due to the contribution of Mr. Tony Gonsalves who made a breakthrough record by serving the centre successfully over 26 years(1980-2005) along-with his long dedicated serving members Joe Fernandes, Joseph Salema, Brigidio Fernandes and Pascoal Alfonso. UGC is one of the few clubs yet oldest who has celebrated their 'silver jubilee' in 2002 under the slogan of 'Friendship Through Sports'. Nevertheless, UGC has always appreciated the support and cooperation extended by the well wishers.
In the last 32 years, UGC strives to ensure the development of the individual players while teaching the importance of team effort, fair competition, discipline and good sportsmanship.
